Thoughts on the Slapshot Art Show

This past Friday a few friends and I checked out Slapshot, a hockey art show that has been traveling across the country. Unfortunately, the show was fairly lame. The pieces in the show were trucked in from Calgary and were a few hours late, so the set up was a little rushed. Most of the pieces were scattered across a long couch in a very dark corner of the room or slung up on available wall space in a fairly haphazard way. Compared to some of the other stops, the Vancouver show looks like it had one of the worst set-ups of the bunch.

Also, of the many people that were there, I get the impression that 20 to 25 were there for the art show and everyone else was there for a night at Shine. To add insult to injury, the DJs musical selection quickly made its way from fairly interesting to somewhat interesting to typical top 40s bullshit. The icing on the cake was when he played Mariah Carrie followed by Justin Timberlake. Pure genius.

The one thing that was great about the evening was the Dave Semenko screenprint by Buck. It was excellent and the Oilers colours were a great touch.
