Remembering Multiactive

Derek recently posted about working at Maximizer Technologies and how this summer he will have been away from Maximizer for longer than he worked there.

I began working at Multiactive Software (as it was briefly renamed) in October 1999 and didn’t leave until I was laid off in 2001. I wasn’t there nearly as long as Derek was, but it was my first real job out of University, my first job in the web industry and my first job in Vancouver. I started out as a Web Editor and eventually became the Lead Web Designer, spending most of my days working in Homesite, Photoshop and Illustrator. I met a lot of great people at Multiactive, learned and incredible amount and had a pretty good time. Some things I miss, some things I don’t, but I’m very grateful for the opportunity I was given (thanks Alistair).

Interestingly, through a fairly small network of connections, I still see the past-President now and then—usually at a BBQ in his backyard. He still cracks me up.

  1. Hey man - great to drop in on inkbase and see content! I know it’s been busy. After I visited your site last week, I finally got the inspiration to download iTunes, and get some of the CBC Radio 3 podcasts. Pretty cool music out there in Canadian indie rock eh?

Say hi to Jayne; Lisa and I had a baby girl named Stella and she’s now 4 months old. It’s a trip man!

    Take care

  2. Hey Jason!
I just found your site through Derek’s links! Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials!
Glad to hear all is well with you both.

  3. To those that knew Ian Tolton: Memorial booze-fest

    When: Wednesday June 7, 2006, 6 p.m.
Where: Yaletown Brewing Company on Mainland. If you can’t find it, you ain’t welcome!
What: Raising as many glasses as we can to the memory of the recently departed Ian Tolton. You have seven days to tell your work that you will be “at a doctor’s appointment” Thursday morning as you recover.
Details: In case you’ve been living under a rock, unlike the rest of us poor slobs Ian won’t be paying taxes any more. Some of us knew him well, some of us not at all. Some of us liked him a lot, some of us not as much, but who gives a fuck what you think? The purpose of this event is to get right pissed drunk and laugh our asses off, the way the man would prefer it.

  5. Hey!

    Still kicking it Teligence stylz?

Was checking out the GDC site that Mark Busse sent me, saw your name and thought I would check out your site.

And then saw Nigel’s name - holy small world.

So here’s a hello to you, Jason and one to Nigel, who I knew some time ago through my ex, Darren.

    Stay cool.

  6. Hey Jenn,

It’s great to hear from you. No, I’m no longer with Teligence. I’m currently doing some contract work for IBM - I’m an Interactive Media Designer working with their User Experience Design team in Burnaby.

What have you been up to?
