My Favourite (Only) Podcasts

I’m no expert when it comes to podcasts. I know what they are, how they work and I certainly understand their potential, but at the moment, I’ve only subscribed to 3: CBC Radio 3, TypeRadio and WFTP. There are others I would like to check out, but I just haven’t had time.

TypeRadio
TypeRadio isn’t updated often (there are only so many typography gatherings), but it offers a lot of insight into the world of graphic design and typography—like how to pronounce Peter Saville’s last name (similar to saw-vill).

WFTP
WFTP is a trio of dj’s (including Mike Cina) and their podcast is a collection of music pulled from old records, so it’s not likely that it’s legal, but it’s stuff I wouldn’t hear otherwise. It’s great music to have running in the background while your working late into the evening.

CBC Radio 3
CBC Radio 3 has to be my favourite. It’s run out of Vancouver, hosted by Grant Lawrence (of The Smugglers), regularly updated and it contains all kinds of Canadian music that is running under the radar. It’s great.

So, those are my picks… got any recomendations for me?

  1. Are you pulling my leg?!
    Saville pronounced as Saw-Vill?

And I thought someone was joking when they pronounced it ‘Seville’ the same as the Spanish city.

Sorry to lump you all together, but why do North Americans feel the need to overcomplicate the pronunciation of English words. Just say what you see… sometimes it might actually be right!

So, for the record, his name is pronounced “sa-vill” with the ‘a’ sounding like the one in ‘hat’.

  2. Hey Dano, I’m no expert in pronunciation, I’m just going by what I heard in the podcast—but thanks for the tip.
