Jason Throws in the Towel
Actually, I guess he didn’t really throw in the towel, he just exchanged it for a different one. Jason Kottke has decided to quit his day job to blog full time and I would like to wish him good luck. A buddy of mine introduced me to Jason’s site back in 1999 and I have been following it ever since. I also used his Silkscreen font for the navigation on the original inkbase website—I think it may have been the first font I ever downloaded.
Interestingly, he expects to pull this off by asking readers like you and I to donate a bit of money—micropatronage as he calls it. I think that’s fair and, although I have no problem with advertising in blogs, I prefer this route as a way for him to make money. Of course, not everyone could pull this off, but Jason has the readership and the respect within the “scene” that I imagine he’ll be able to do it. I just submitted my donation, how about you?
